Tax Analyst

Compensation: $23.75 to $27.50 hourly

This is a Part Time (24 hours a week position) This is ideal for candidates with 1-2 years of post-graduate work experience or seasonable part-time tax detail oriented, or tax consultant with a focus on SALT. We are looking for motivated individuals who want to explore career opportunities within the dynamic field of State & Local Tax, income tax, sales and use tax, property tax, business tax, annual reports and other miscellaneous filings with federal, state and local taxing authorities. You will have an opportunity to utilize strong research and analytical skills in ad hoc analysis, work with senior tax manager to file state and local tax returns and also to support the filed returns during audits by taxing authorities. Solid critical thinking skills are requisite to ensure we pay only the taxes due with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency. The work is dynamic, fast-paced, and requires multi-tasking with a continuous improvement mindset. Job Responsibilities: • Completing work accurately and timely, meeting rigid and often times, recurring due dates • Register entities in new tax jurisdictions for sales/use tax and business and occupation licenses • Keep abreast of state tax law changes and perform tax research and interpret/document application to the company business which could have a significant impact on the company’s tax reporting. Identify changes needed in tax determination and reporting systems • Review sales tax rules periodically and initiate systems updates. Review sale and purchase invoices monthly for proper sales and use tax determination. Book journal entries as needed and reconcile tax liability general ledger accounts monthly • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax, gross receipts tax, property tax, business and occupation tax returns, annual and informational reports in multiple jurisdictions and process payments • Support the federal quarterly income tax estimate process by reviewing tax returns, estimating quarterly income tax payments and filing of extensions where needed • Assist the Manager with various areas of tax research, special projects, and IRS/State audit issues • Maintain tax calendar to keep track of state and local income tax returns, sales and use returns, property tax returns and miscellaneous filings; maintain the company’s good filing status with each state/local jurisdiction • Work across functions of finance/accounting to collect data necessary for return filing and tax analysis

Requirements

Qualifications: • BS degree in accounting, business, mathematics, or finance required • 1 to 2 years of tax experience with public accounting firm or corporate tax department • Experience with accounting and/or tax systems such as Great Plains, Discovery, Lacerte Tax, OneSource, excellent Microsoft Office skills required, especially with excel spreadsheet, able to run basic data query and pivot tables and v lookup to enhance analysis • Experience preparing sales and use tax return, property tax return, and/or income tax returns strongly preferred; experience helping with state, city and local business registrations preferred but not required • Self-starter, capable of working independently with strong initiative and flexibility, proactive and organized to meet tight deadlines • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to present tax data in an understandable manner • High-level of personal integrity, strong work ethic and compliance focus If you are interested in this position, please apply online and call ACCOUNTEMPS at (831) 241-9042.
