Payroll Accountant

Description

The Payroll Administrator works under general supervision, protecting confidentiality and data security, to ensure accurate processing and recording of company's payroll, and provide timely and accurate financial information. The Payroll Administrator will support the Assistant Controller to ensure the collection, posting, and management of labor information reporting and the integrity of the payroll function.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of PAYROLL ACCOUNTANT:
1. Analyze and process all functions as it relates to payroll in accordance with company policies, practices and procedures as well as appropriate federal and state wage and hour laws
2. Prepare payroll and benefits related journal entries
3. Audit and ensure timekeeping transactions are within wage and hour guidelines and communicate deficiencies with department managers
4. Handle payroll-related inquiries, provide appropriate solutions and alternatives within time limits and follow up to ensure resolutions
5. Administer the company labor tracking system and manage the interface between the timecard and HRIS/Payroll system
6. Prepare, review and reconcile weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports including gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax-related, benefit deductions, etc. as needed for management, Human Resources (HR) and Accounting
7. Verify that compensation and other employee changes initiated by HR flow through payroll accurately including promotions, job changes, new hires and terminations
8. Prepare and process garnishment payments ensuring garnishments are applied and completed in accordance with state and federal rules and regulations
9. Perform compliance for unclaimed property payroll checks
10. Assist with system administration for the HRIS/Payroll system, including troubleshooting, maintenance, implementation upgrade, and coordination of operations with HR
11. Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies
12. Ensure confidentiality, discretion and professionalism


TOP QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Minimum five years of progressively responsible payroll experience with multi-state, mid-size operation is required

2) Associate's degree in Accounting or Business or equivalent applicable education and work experience is required; Bachelor's degree is preferred

3) Knowledge of state, federal, wage and hour and employment laws and regulations required

4) Experience with Payroll/Time capture system implementation

OTHER QUALS:
-FCP/CPP is preferred
-Knowledge of payroll best practices, accounting principles and internal controls
-Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to communicate with all levels of personnel
-Provide exceptional customer service
-Proficient PC skills are required, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite and computerized payroll and timekeeping, Ceridian is preferred
-Solve problems using critical thinking and sound judgment
-Prioritize workload to consistently meet deadlines
-Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
-Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
