Description

Our client is a $4B+ publicly traded company (specialty manufacturing and distribution) Position is based in executive offices downtown Chicago, within 2 blocks of Ogleby Train Station, with close access to top level executives (about 50 people in this office) The company is very profitable and has been thru the downturn and they are growing quickly The role: Mainly focused external reporting, technical accounting & research. Ideal candidate has 5-7 years of Big 4 experience, CPA, and audit/transaction advisory background. 

Reports to: Director of External Reporting & Accounting Research

Direct Reports: External Reporting & Accounting Research Accountant

Description of duties & responsibilities:

Assist with drafting, coordinating and completing all SEC filings using WebFilings application: including 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, proxy filings Maintain XBRL tags for 10-K and 10-Q filings, including at least an annual refresh as new taxonomies are released Perform accounting research for various issues as they arise and work with Director of External Reporting & Accounting Research to propose solution Follow new accounting pronouncements to identify the effect on the Company and implement Perform reviews of purchase accounting and related disclosures for new acquisitions, including assessment of intangible assets (may involve coordination with third party valuation firm) Perform account reviews of certain corporate-level or consolidated accounts, such as derivatives (including hedge effectiveness), bad debt reserves, goodwill impairment and capital lease tests Participate in monthly review of financial statements and results Other Finance Department projects Assist Investor Relations with preparation of presentations Participate in the execution of internal control procedures, including maintaining support for disclosures related to various filings, executing account reviews, and maintaining accounting policies  

Requirements

Minimum education and experience required:
  • 5-7 years of work experience, including public accounting experience (prefer experience working on large public companies)
  • CPA is required
  • Experience using COGNOS Controller and / or Oracle general ledger would be helpful


Special skills required
:

  • Strong technical accounting skills (experience in purchase accounting preferable) Knowledge of SEC rules and regulations and experience with SEC filings Effective business writing Experience with XBRL and WebFilings application preferred Able to use Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Ability to work effectively with various levels of management
