Digital Business Analyst

This person will be part of the 'Digital Client Experience' team rounding out a stable team (like a scrum team). This team is directly related to Client Experience and is planning to launch a new product: 'Data Aggregation' (like the app, Mint)

Role: Business Analyst - Business oriented

• Analyst must act in a neutral, fact-based fashion while driving the successful definition of user stories, acceptance criteria, as-is and to-be process flows and/or user journey maps
* Ability to understand overall business objectives and can dive into any product feature or story to explain desired business outcomes/objectives
* Can lean into the product (understand business objectives, UX, customer journey) and technology (performance, API's) to push both sides to action aka a balanced view
* Adept at timeboxing activities and a bias to action
* Maturity with how to escalate issues to ensure surprises are minimized
* Elicit business requirements using appropriate tools and techniques including but not limited to conducting user story development sessions, interviews, document analysis, surveys, site visits, business process, task and workflow analysis
* Partners with Product owner to drive requirements definition, including close collaboration with Systems Analyst to jointly define business and associated requirements. For clarity, this role is business focused. Systems Analyst will define technical requirements (aka functional specs). [CRITICAL] - for this person to demonstrate how they drive clarity of requirements with others and how this contributes to product quality.
* Manage daily activities, working sessions, issue resolution, and communication across project and support teams to ensure requirements are clear and not a roadblock to project delivery
* Analyze and evaluate data gathered from multiple sources and distinguish user requests from underlying true needs
* Collaborate with business process owners to identify and maximize opportunities to use information and technology to improve product, service and business processes
* Create As-Is and To-Be workflow charts and diagrams, process models and data models to help engage stakeholders and drive for results on requirements gathering and gap analysis
* Engage with project stakeholders and motivate project team members toward common goals and objectives
* Model and manage requirements throughout the project life cycle authoring ongoing version and change control, tracking, traceability, etc.
* Contribute to Project Management deliverables and metric development under the direction of the Project Manager


Ideal Candidate

1. [CRITICAL] - Solid emotional intelligence (EQ) factor - must be warm and approachable; understands the value of relationships and how to make them easily. Focuses on getting things done but can keep their emotions in check while reading/understanding their partners. Often, this means BAo can show empathy and take the time to understand the challenges versus simply blowing the doors down.

I suspect you can find lots of candidates with the hard skills. I'd like your help in screening candidates that have a solid EQ. This normally comes across as

• Unflappable, always under control

• always has a smile; warm and approachable

• handles conflict with engagement, empathy, and a desire to understand first before acting
2. [CRITICAL] Clear and concise communication style
a. When asked a direct question can provide a direct answer [Must Have]
b. Understands what it means to 'not editorialize' feedback

3. Previous exposure discussing projects with executives
a. Can think on their feet when asked a direct question w/o throwing their teammate under the bus

4. Previous experience with hybrid Agile environment, including
a. Hands-on experience using JIRA[Must Have]
b. Hands-on experience writing user stories, acceptance criteria

5. Previous experience working with external development vendors
a. Understands onshore/offshore development models
b. Can collaborate when multiple JIRA instances are utilized

6. Previous financial service and business requirements definition experience
a. Ideally in wealth management (working with advisors)
b. Prior understanding of product roadmaps, product backlogs so they can assist product owners as necessary

7. Is a diplomat
a. Understands how to influence others
b. Can drive action without being abrasive, preachy, or pushy

8. Quick Study
a. Must be able to drop into ambiguous situations and drive clarity
