Robert Half Finance is looking for an ambitious, eager Controller to join the team at an well-respected services company. This is a leadership role with responsibility over an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, your tasks will include planning and directing all accounting operational functions, managing the accumulation and consolidation of financial information for internal and external financial statements, assessing accounting and internal control systems, and guiding departmental staff. This full-time position is for a Controller who will work in the Annapolis, Maryland region. Your responsibilities in this role - Present executive committee and partners with monthly financial reports - Prepare cash-flow reports, projecting cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, daily cash management - Complete month-end and year-end close of income statement and balance sheet, reconcile accounts, and handle G/L analysis - Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts - Guide all operations of the finance department, including accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll - Collaborate with executive team and partners to make efficient and effective firm-wide operation possible - Support punctual cash collection by managing the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques - Comfortable handling responsibilities beyond formal job duties - Analyze deliverables of self and team to confirm they meet client expectations - Evaluate, apply and refine policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies - Research, plan and implement Finance Department initiatives including software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed

Requirements

- Progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred - Demonstrated knowledge of government contracts - Strong familiarity with financial reconciliation - Experience with financial statement preparation - Practical knowledge of month end closings - Foundational knowledge in financial reporting - Expertise in audit schedules - Accruals experience - General familiarity with journal entries - Year end closings experience highly preferred - Adeptness in general ledger - Takes action on items beyond formal job responsibilities - Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic and constantly changing company environment - Accounting experience in publicly-traded company a plus - Advanced credentials such as a Masters of Business Administration / MBA or Certified Public Accountant / CPA are preferred - Exemplary analytical, quantitative and social skills - Past work in technology, analytics and management experience highly valued - Ability and willingness to meet business critical deadlines - Skilled in the construction and delivery of effective presentations to audiences with wide-ranging backgrounds - Strong communication and social skills and able to receive criticism well - Observant, accurate and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment - BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field
