Controller

Description

 Creative Financial Staffing (CFS) of New York is working with a leading faith based organization who is seeking a Controller to join their team. Reporting to the Vice President, Administration/Chief Financial Officer, the Controller is responsible for the general ledger and provides oversight of all accounting, finance and reporting activities. The Controller monitors and updates internal control procedures, supervises the day-to-day operations of the Finance team, oversees the functions of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, and is cross-trained in all areas. Working closely with the CFO, the Controller prepares and analyzes reports for the Audit committee. The Controller works with program leaders and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can better support program operations.


Responsibilities of the Controller include:


  • Review and prepare journal entries, fixed asset schedules, general ledger, account reconciliations and analyses

  • Ensure accurate and appropriate coding and approval of all revenue and expenditures to their appropriate accounts, including unrestricted, temporarily restricted and permanently restricted funds

  • Review monthly bank account reconciliations

  • Oversee payroll process and prepare benefit analyses

  • Oversee daily cash balances and make recommendations for cash transfers

  • Lead the annual audit process, providing all necessary input to ensure the audit is complete, and prepare the annual financial statements

  • Review and update internal control procedures and ensure compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements

  • Prepare reconciliations for 941s

  • Oversee Worker’s Comp audit and prepare schedules

Requirements

Qualifications of the Controller include:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, a CPA and/or an MBA are a strong plus

  • 5 years' experience, with previous managerial experience preferred

  • Team leadership and supervision skills, ability and willingness to take on hands-on work when needed

  • Proficiency with Financial Edge, Raiser’s Edge and ADP Workforce Now are preferred
