Chief Operating & Financial Officer - Real Estate

POSITION SUMMARY:

This is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to a successful, well-established, multi-diverse Real Estate business. This position will report directly to the President with significant exposure to the entire leadership team. The COO/CFO will manage the accounting/finance team and be highly involved in driving day to day operations, developing corporate strategy and managing risk, as well as providing general business advice and strategy to President/CEO. The ideal candidate will be a technically adept accounting and finance professional with deep expertise in multi-use Real Estate investment, Construction and Development, with a vision for the future while maintaining a desire to remain hands-on in the business.

The COO/CFO position is accountable for the financial and risk management operations of the company, which includes the development and successful implementation of financial and operational policies, metrics tied to driving financial performance, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve company assets and report accurate and meaningful financial results. Core Functions: Strategy, Planning and Management
Assist CIO in developing financial strategies by forecasting capital, identifying monetary resources and developing action plans.
Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results, initiating corrective actions that minimize impact of variances.
Analyze and support organization growth potential by projecting acquisition and expansion prospects, analyzing organization operations, and work closely with CIO in accumulating capital to fund expansion.
Assess and evaluate financial performance of organization regarding long-term operational goals, budgets, and forecasts. Provide insight and recommendations to both short-term and long-term growth plan of organization. Financial Analysis, Budgeting and Forecasting
Establish finance operational strategies by evaluating trends, establishing critical measurements, determining production, productivity, quality and customer service strategies, designing systems, accumulating resources, resolving problems, and implementing change.
Collaborate with CIO to develop financial strategies by forecasting capital, facility requirements, identifying monetary resources, and developing action plans.
Work closely with Asset Management to oversee operating budgets.
Monitor cash balances, and in conjunction with Controller, prepare cash flow analyses; review 12-month rolling business plans prepared by Controller and Asset Management.
Review and understand all monthly and quarterly statements. Accounting, General Ledger, Administration and Operations
Lead cross-organization finance team. Determine accountabilities, communicate organization mission, values, policies, and procedures. Select, orient, train, coach, motivate, and appraises team members. Serve as mentor to team members, preparing team for continued professional growth and future advancement within the organization.
Supervise the accounting department to ensure the proper functioning of all systems, databases, and financial software.
Oversee the preparation and communication of financial statements and the month-end close process.
Enhance and implement financial and accounting systems, processes, tools, and control systems.
Oversee the monthly job costing report process along with the Controller, Accounting and Project Managers/Project Accountants for use in understanding and driving profitable job performance.
Understand and monitor, the extensive internal mechanisms that drive job cost and financial reporting at the operations.
Perform regular detailed analytical reviews and make recommendations for improved financial performance.
Administration and oversight for of all aspects of Human Resource and Information Technology functions.
Maintenance of investor capital account records and related reporting systems
Check signing and administration for all companies accounts and operational banking relationships. Financial Management
Report financial status by developing forecasts, reporting results, analyzing variances, and developing improvements.
Utilize forward-looking models and activity-based analyses to provide financial insight into the organization's plans and operating budgets.
Represent company to banks, financial partners, institutions, investors, public auditors, and officials.
Remain current on audit best practices as well as state, federal and local laws regarding company operations.
Develop finance organization strategies by contributing financial and accounting information, analysis, and recommendations that support organization strategic thinking and direction, establishing functional objectives in line with organizational objectives.

Key Criteria:
15plus years of senior-level financial/accounting experience in a diverse multi-use Real Estate Investment environment (preferably an organization that did construction/development).
A CPA, MBA or other advanced degree or certification
Deep knowledge of GAAP accounting, financial statements, budgeting and forecasting, and internal controls in diverse Real Estate environments with complex transactions.
Proven success at leading and managing professionals in finance/accounting, including team development and efficient deployment through a practiced coaching and a people-focused management style.
Ability to partner with CEO/President and other members of the executive team to drive and influence the future direction of the company while bringing their own point of view and expertise to insuring the continuing excellence of the finance/accounting and administrative departments.
